I. Mental Hospitals and Asylums You will not believe the photos on this site, which also features other abandoned urban buildings. The abandoned hospitals are riveting. Kirkbride was once the most popular building design for mental hospitals, considered state of the art in their time. Unfortunately, this possibly most famous abandoned facility is being destroyed, so soon the photographs will be the only remaining way to explore this incredible place. From the flash introduction to the body of works, this site will touch you, distrub you, and keep you glued to the screen. It is a project dedicated to preserving the memory of mental institutions in Massachussets. This website provides valuable information as to which irreplaceable buildings have been or are about to be destroyed, and gives information as well as photos about historic hospitals. What amazing photography. This site leaves me speechless. The journalism on this site is of the highest caliber. Plan to spend time reading as well as looking at the pictures, because the text is engrossing. Look, for this section, in Institutionalized under Galleries. Unbelievable. Possibly the best site about Danvers This Michigan mental hospital has now been destroyed, so the photos are all that remain. Danvers from Jeremy Barnard Art Click on Danvers State Institution in the left hand column. Do not miss the patient art. Oh my God... This documents a collaboration and exhibit on Danvers. Just make sure your heart can stand it. Georgia Asylum at Milledgeville (Central State Hospital) I don't know where this is, but the pictures are worth seeing. Extremely well done and comprehensive website with hundreds of pictures of this school for the feebleminded which has been destroyed. CLICK HERE TO GO TO LINKS FOR ABANDONED PRISONS |
